Lauren Rowe says she once thought she’d never graduate from high school, let alone go to college. But this year she graduated from Balfour Education Center’s early college program, with three semesters of college credit.
She was at the top of her class in the mechatronics program and was the graduation speaker. In September she will attend Blue Ridge Community College full-time to complete her associate’s degree. She received a $6,500 scholarship from a private fund in addition to the $5,000 annual education assistance available to her as a foster child when she turns 18 in December. She may pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.
