Volunteers step up to comfort local foster system kids in transition

“There must be a better way,” Jeanmarie Moore thought as she saw the 8-year-old boy listen to a social worker.

The boy, like every other child who enters the foster care system, was sitting and waiting alone as the worker unsuccessfully called family after family in an attempt to take him in.

“That poor little guy was only hearing one side of the conversation that people didn’t want him … it’s traumatizing,” said Moore, a 48-year-old mom from Longview.
