One in three foster care children split from siblings in Barking and Dagenham

Children in foster care are being split up from their brothers and sisters in higher numbers than anywhere else in London, a charity has revealed.

Data released by Action for Children, after a Freedom of Information request, found that Barking and Dagenham has the highest number of siblings in foster care being separated out of all 33 London boroughs.

Fifty-five children were involved in sibling splits between April 2013 and March 2014, in 20 individual cases, amounting to nearly a third of all the borough’s foster care children.
