1-month-old foster child dies in Norfolk

Norfolk Police are investigating the death of a 1-month-old after the child was found unresponsive Thursday morning.

Officer Daniel Hudson with Norfolk police said a baby boy was found not breathing at an apartment near Arkansas Avenue and East Princess Anne Road, just before 5:30 a.m.

Hudson said the child was a foster care child who had been brought to a foster family by Child Protective Services this past weekend. According to police, the child’s foster parents called 911 and told dispatchers the baby was not breathing. When officers arrived on scene they conducted CPR on the baby, but when paramedics arrived they pronounced the child dead.

Police said a man and woman were inside the home. They say the two are not married, but they are related. There were no other children inside the home.
